Record Turnout at Agri Affairs Meeting
The first of the East Region Agri Affairs Meeting took place on Thursday 8th November at the Huntingtower Hotel, Perth. The evening was hosted by Agricar, Perth and consisted of talks by the New Holland producers, a SAYFC Agri Affairs Round-up and a pie and pint for all in attendance. It was great to see such a fantastic turn-out and the East and Agri Affairs Committee's hope that this will continue at future Agri Affairs Meetings.

It has always been difficult to get started in farming but many say that it is now more difficult than ever. These concerns prompted the Tenant Farming Forum to set up a group to consider the extent of the problem.

NFU Scotland has launched a high profile, national campaign to encourage people to choose Scottish food and drink. The food and farming campaign will highlight not only the quality of Scottish food and drink, but the environmental, animal welfare, health and social benefits of buying Scottish.

BRAZIL TOUR 2007

The Agri Affairs group took a group of 16 YF members to Brazil in December. The reason we have chosen Brazil for this Agri affairs trip is very simple. Due to the fact that Brazil is bigger in terms of land mass than the whole of Europe put together and coupled with its frighteningly fast agricultural growth makes this country a must for an Agri visit.

The trip covered a whole range of activities from viewing large scale beef ranches and dairy cow farms, arable and feed lot units. This together with more technical visits to their research and development programs at the Sau Paulo University as well as an insight into Brazil's tracebilty schemes. Also lets not fail to mention the obligatory sight seeing and nightlife that every YF tour intails.

Delegates will depart on Sunday 2 December returning 12 December.
