Oxford Farming Conference scholar Ewan Smith (Bankfoot JAC) greatly benefitted from his recent attendance at the agri-food industry conference, gaining chances to network with industry leaders, contribute to the debates and interact with others at the scholars' workshop.
For Catherine Sloan (Bankfoot JAC) and Andrew Neilson (Avondale YFC), they have been provided with a better understanding of how broad the sector is - following on from hearing talks by food chain representatives, policy makers, academics, scientists and journalists.
This year's conference themed "World of Opportunity" allowed our team to delve into the three day programme covering the topics of knowledge exchange, the future of land tenure, the future of farm trading, data and disruptive innovations and more - plus attending various debates, workshops and dinners. The attendees were addressed by Michael Gove in his "Food First" opening speech, praising the food quality of UK farms.
SAYFC National Chair, Mr David Lawrie recapped on his trip highlighting: "Oxford Farming Conference was a fantastic opportunity to get a true insight into British Agriculture in 2019. The fantastic line up of speakers and the opportunity to meet like minded delegates made it a great few days".
