Disappointing turn out for East Sports
|
EAST REGION SPORTS HAS A DISAPPOINTING TURNOUT
East Regional eliminations for the 5-a-side football and 7-a-side hockey were held on the Sunday 25th of October, with 5 teams of each sport qualifying to the National finals. With all 21 Clubs of the Region being able to compete in both sports a high turn out was to be expected but unfortunately a total of 5 Teams competed in both sports.
The competition does not come as a high expense to the Members or the Clubs with an entry fee of £20 per team to cover venue hire costs. With the drop in numbers these costs will not be met for 2009 and the competition will be reviewed at the East Region Mid Point Assembly in January. The competition had already been reviewed following the 2008 competition due to recommendation from Clubs, and had been adjusted to suit younger members who couldn’t compete on a Saturday due to work commitments.
Even with this low turnout members braved the weather to hold the eliminations at FIPRE in Glenrothes, and although many would think the elimination would not have to be held due to the number of teams, all teams must compete in the Regional Competition to qualify to the National finals.
Representing the East Region at the National 7-a-side Hockey on the 29th of November in Stirling will be Bathgate JAC (5th), Strathmore JAC (4th), Peebles JAC (3rd), Kinross JAC (2nd), and Strathearn JAC (1st).
The National 5-a-side Football takes place on the 14th of February with Bell Baxter ADS (5th), Bankfoot JAC (=3rd), Strathmore JAC (=3rd), Kinross JAC (2nd) and Bathgate JAC (1st) flying the flag for the East Region.
