Strathearn JAC Win Junior Speechmaking

The East Region Junior Speechmaking Elimination was held on Sunday 6th of December at the Young Farmers Centre, Ingliston, with 3 teams competing for a place at the National final in January. Although this seems a disappointing turn out it was encouraging to see new teams participating in 2009, and with encouragement the East hopes to see these teams return in 2010.

Junior Speechmaking has struggled in the East Region over the past 5 years with only a maximum of 3 teams competing, and with this the East Region will be looking at how this competition can be suited to more members within the 21 Clubs.

With this year’s competition takes the form of Chairman, Proposer, and Opposer, Strathearn JAC’s team of Gillian Stewart, Claire Mercer, and David Adamson took the East title with their speech on ‘Horses or Horsepower’. East Fife JAC entered two teams in the competition and it was good to see new and young members stepping up to the table to debate over some topical issues. All three teams received good feedback and advice from Mr Robin Traquair, Mrs Anne Steel, and Mr John Weir our judges on the day.

All teams will now represent the East Region at the National final on the 9th of January 2010.
