Scottish Agricultural College
|
SAC - The Scottish Agricultural College is delighted to be a major sponsor of the SAYFC this year. As Scotland’s specialist land-based knowledge transfer institute, SAC has been providing learning, advisory, consultancy and training services to the agricultural and land-based sector for over 100 years. Many of today’s students are following a family tradition of studying at our Aberdeen (Craibstone), Ayr (Auchincruive) and Edinburgh (King’s Buildings) campuses, and many SAYFC members are current, or former, SAC students or employees.
Learning with SAC
Just like the agricultural industry, the courses offered by SAC have diversified. We remain true to our agricultural and horticultural roots but ensure students will be at the cutting edge of these industries by offering subjects like organic farming, rural enterprise, garden design and plantsmanship. We also offer courses in science and technology subjects that support the land-based industries such as agricultural, animal and plant sciences, food technology and bioscience.
Public interest in the environment is high and SAC courses in conservation and countryside, rural resource management, environmental protection and sustainability are designed for those who wish to pursue careers in these fields or those who are farming who want up to the minute environmental know-how. And our leisure, tourism and outdoor pursuits courses show how our desire for enjoyment can be harmonised with the need to protect natural resources.
Training and Lifelong Learning
Many people continue updating or developing new knowledge and skills with us once in employment. SAC offers a range of accredited training in areas such as arboriculture, plant machinery skills and maintenance, business management, food hygiene and pesticide applications, with courses offered throughout Scotland. You can discuss your individual or company training needs with our friendly trainers who will undertake an informal and non-committal but comprehensive training needs analysis to help you identify the right course whether for continuing professional development purposes or to assist you to enter a particular sector of the industry.
Flexible learning and on-line and campus based short courses complete the SAC learning portfolio. With SAC’s award winning material you can choose when and where you study – all you need is access to a PC or use our Enterprise Learning Centres in Aberdeen and Ayr. Our campus short courses are scheduled for morning or afternoons, ideal for professional purposes or to develop a leisure pursuit.
