The North Junior Speechmaking and Junior Quiz will be held on Sunday 28th October 2018 at the East Caithness Community Facility, Newton Road, Wick, KW1 5LT.

The top three teams from the North will then go forward to the National Junior Speechmaking on the 8th December 2018.
Junior Quiz (teams of 3) - each District shall be holding eliminations on Friday 5th October and the winning team from each District are entitle to compete at the North Final which shall be held during the interval prior to the announcement of the speechmaking results. The top two teams from North will then go through to the National Junior Quiz final on the 8th December.

On Sunday 28th October the North Region held its annual Junior Speechmaking Elimination along with for the first time Junior Quiz at the East of Caithness Campus in Wick.
In the Speechmaking we have six teams compete, with a range of speech topics covered, which was Judges by Kelly Coghill, Willie Budge and Graham Mackay and asking questions of the speakers were Hilda Sutherland and Michelle Foubister.
The winning team was East Mainland A, who’s speaker Shannon Foubister delivered an enthusiastic speech on “What does the Future hold”, chairman of the team was Charlotte Hume and the Mover of the Vote of Thanks was Orla Tait; the girls scored 79.99 out of a possible 100.
Second place went to Udny Blue with 77.82 points, Rhea Work delivered a very informative speech titled “Deer, oh Deer, Oh Deer”, Rhea also snapped up the best speaker outwith the winning team prize, Chairman Angus Riddoch also snatched the best chairman outwith with winning team and making it a hat trick was Gail Taylor who delivered their Vote of Thank and also snatched the best mover of the vote of thanks outwith the winning team.
In Third on the day were Sandwick’s team of Amy Neil as Chairperson, Mhairi Linklater whose speech was titled #nowrongpath, and Mover of the Vote of Thanks Cody Chalmers with a score of 75.48.
The other teams taking part were Undy Red, East Mainland B and Turriff. The Judges said all teams did extremely well and were delighted in the standard. The top three teams shall now go forward to represent the North at the National Final in December.
New this year was the junior quiz which has just been introduced to calendar. Each District held eliminations at the start of October and the winning team from each district was eligible to compete at the Regional final. We saw 4 teams take part, Orkney, Caithness, Deveron & Speyside and East Aberdeenshire. Winning the quiz was the duo from East Aberdeenshire, Udny team Gail Taylor, Rachel Milne and Rhea Work. In second was Orkney made up of Amy Tait, Senga Tait and Mhairi Linklater in third was Bower who were representing Caithness made up for Stephen Dunnett, Alistair McCarthy and Beth Dunnett. The top two teams shall now go forward to the National Junior Quiz Final in December.
North Chairman Michael Gunn added “was great to see so many juniors taking part in the speechmaking and the competition growing again, the venue worked well for the competition and was good to see spectators from all over the region attend”
