There are specific rules for each National and Regional Competition. There are however generic rules which should be followed which are outlined below.
All competitors must be a member of a YF Club affiliated to SAYFC.
If you are a winner of the competitions below you are not allowed to compete in the competition again: Stockman of the Year, Member of the Year
If you are a winner of the following competitions, you may not compete the year following your win but can return to compete in following years:
Dairy Cattle Dressing
Beef Cattle Dressing
Past Winning Teams
Any teams winning a competition may not compete with the same team members the following year. Fifty percent of team members must be replaced.
In the opinion of and at the Chief Stewards' discretion a competitor or team could be disqualified for conduct by word or act which is deemed to bring the event and/or the YFC into disrepute.
The Chief Steward is responsible for the technical interpretation of the rules although he/she may consult with the judges of the competition.
The Chief Steward retains the right to disqualify any competitor or team in the event that he/she believes that an infringement of the rules has taken place.
The Chief Steward is responsible for the Health & Safety of the event and accordingly if he/she believes that there is any potential danger from any source then he/she retains the right to stop the event. The Chief Steward may also disqualify and remove any particular member or team from the event if they are deemed to be unsafe or jeopardising a third party, livestock or equipment.
The Judges will be advised if there is any infringement of the rules in the opinion of the Chief Steward. They may make appropriate penalties in such circumstances. The Judge’s decision is final.
If a member has competed in an elimination round for a team, and did not qualify, he/she cannot be selected to compete in the same competition for another team either of the same Club or different Club at a later stage of the competition.
No more than 50% of the team may be substituted from an elimination to the next round.
Any member not able to compete on the day of the National Competition due to them reaching above the age of eligibility will be ineligible to compete in the preliminary rounds leading up to this event.
In general, 1 Associate member may compete in a team competition with every 3 full members competing. This rule does not apply to any team competition where an Associate Section runs in parallel with the full members competition – ie. Stockmanship Programme.
Teams – A member can only compete for one team during a competition at any level (District/Regional/National).
Club Entries - All members of a team must be a registered member of the Club. A member may be a member of more than 1 Club at any time.
District Entries – A district may formulate an entry from members of different Clubs as long as there has been no eliminations at Club or District level prior to them submitting the team.
Region Entries– If a Region is unable to fill their allocation of teams, this will be opened up to the other regions to fill.
Entries will not be accepted if they arrive after the closing date unless prior arrangements have been made.
If you are not able to confirm the final team by the closing date a written confirmation must be sent to confirm that you will have a team and it will be finalised as soon as possible. This written confirmation must also be received before the closing date.
