Deveron & Speyside District Host the 2019 Grampian Rally
A good day was had by all at Keith Show Park, Keith for the 2019 Grampian Rally, hosted by Deveron Speyside District on Saturday 8th June.
Sixteen clubs from around the Grampian area competed on the day in many competitions from Stockjudging, Construction, Field Contests and sports to Arts and crafts, Flower arranging and Practical Competitions.
The Angus Milling Trophy is awarded annually to the overall top placed club at the Grampian Rally. The winners of this trophy were Echt YFC for the first time in 19 years with 81 points, 2nd Strichen JAC with 75.5 points and in 3rd place Udny JAC with 71.5 Points.
The Turriff JAC Perpetual Challenge Trophy for the best small club was also won by Echt YFC, followed by Mid Deeside in 2nd place with 61 points and New Deer YFC in third place with 50 points.
The Stockjudging took place in the morning with 96 competitors judging cattle, sheep and a valuation class at Berryleys, Grange by kind permission of the Stronach Family. The first placed team winning the North of Scotland Association of Junior Agricultural Clubs Cup for Stockjudging and reason giving were Vale of Alford JAC with 1079 points (Cameron Smith, Craig Coutts and Brodie Keir), second were Mid Deeside A with 1050 points (Rachael Reid, Eric Smith and Keith Barron) and third Strichen A with 1018 points (Morag Brown, Stuart Ross and James Lowe). The best individual Stockjudging competitor winning the William Brown Cup was James McIver of Lower Speyside YFC with 387 points, second was Stuart Ross of Strichen JAC with 385 points and third was Brodie Keir from Vale of Alford with 382 points. The best ladies individual was Sarah Phillips of Echt B with 373 points, second was Nicola Wordie of Strathbogie A with 366 and Hannah Lorimer of Echt B with 341 points.
There was an impressive display of entries in the industrial tent which gave the judges a very difficult task on the day with all sections having between 25 and 32 entries in each. Many club names appeared in the prize lists throughout the day proving the dedication and effort that club members go to in all areas of the Rally.
