SAYFC and United Auctions have partnered to launch the brand-new North Lamb Overwintering Competition.
Young Farmer members can purchase store lambs from any UA mart between 1st Sept and 31st Dec 2021 to overwinter either on grass, forage crops or concentrates (housed or outdoors) and sell again at any UA mart between 1st Jan and 31st Mar 2022.
There are 5 classes, each of 10 lambs and 1 entry per class, per member. All breeds of lambs are welcome, with a strong commercial and business aspect to this competition, and all lambs must be overwintered for a minimum of 60 days. The lambs will be judged on their average daily liveweight gain, highest feeder’s margin and highest profit margin. There is also a home-bred section for lambs bred by the member entering.
United Auctions have also kindly offered a Young Farmer’s Livestock Buyer’s Scheme to support any participating member in this competition.
