The roots of SAYFC are firmly set within the agricultural and rural industry. Although not all Young Farmer members are today farmers we still need to respect our heritage and be a voice for young people who have an interest in agriculture. The Agri & Rural Committee ensures members have this voice, and is open to anyone who would like to join.
The association organises a number of agricultural and rural based competitions such as sheep shearing, stockjudging and tractor driving. Additional to this the calendar includes farm walks, study tours, presentations, training and skill development and more.
Through working with supporters and kindred organisations SAYFC continuously invests in the development of the services available, creating a platform for dialogue with Young Farmers who want to share their vision for the future of the agricultural and rural industry in Scotland.
The Agri & Rural Affairs committee is headed up by a Chairman and has a national group who oversee the three regional groups (North, East & West). Each regional group has its own representative which allows events, visits, discussions, etc to be more in line with the requirements of members in those areas. Engaging members in discussions about the issues that really matter is a critical component of Agri & Rural Affairs. By bringing members opinions and thoughts together on issues such as land tenure, subsidies, environmental protection and food security to name but a few the committee aims to arrive at a consensus which they can take forward to the media, stakeholder groups or maybe even Hollyrood/Europe so that the members interests are better represented in the future. In turn this will empower members to be the future Agri & Rural leaders of Scotland ensuring the Scottish farming Industry is a prosperous, sustainable and profitable sector for all."
