SAYFC North Region held their Grampian elimination of the ‘Ready Steady Country Cooks’ competition on Sunday 3rd December at Garioch Community Kitchen.

The competition was kindly sponsored by Hattoncrook Farm Deli and judged by Emma Cowie.

Members from Lower Speyside, Vale of Alford and Strichen were in teams of two and raced against the clock to produce dishes using only the store ingredients and a bag of 8 mystery ingredients. Within the mystery bag there was 150g of diced lamb, pineapple, rice and a courgette.

In the end one of the teams from Vale of Alford which was made up of Alexandra Greig and Jack Greig came out on top with a fantastic 92 points out of a possible 100 with their lamb kebab creation.

In Second it was the Lower Speyside team of Maria and Rhona Rhind with 83.5 points and in third place it was the team from Strichen, Kirsten Craig and Isobel Short with 79 points.

North Chair, Sally Mair said “Grampian Country Cooks was a great success once again. Following the St Andrews Day theme and supporting Scottish Sheep Farmers, this year we had lamb as our main ingredient. A superb variety of dishes cooked to an excellent standard! Wishing both our North teams the best of luck at the National finals in February”
