Strichen Young Farmers Cut the Mustard at Grampian Ready Steady Country Cooks Competition

SAYFC North Region held their Grampian elimination of the ‘Ready Steady Country Cooks’ competition on Sunday 20th October at Garioch Community Kitchen.

The competition was kindly sponsored by Hattoncrook Farm Deli and judged by Alison Argo and Joan Nicoll.

Members from Keith and District, Vale of Alford and Strichen were in teams of two and raced against the clock to produce dishes using only store ingredients and a bag of 8 mystery items. Within the mystery bag there was beef mince, Chorizo, Chocolate and Egg noodles. It was a very close competition which made the judges job a difficult one.

In the end it was the team from Strichen, made up of Eilidh Davidson and Isobel Short who came out on top with a fantastic 95 points out of a possible 100.

The Vale of Alford team of Alexandra Greig and Jack Greig were a very close second with 94 points and in third place it was the team from Keith and District, Zara Morrice and Hollie Smith with an impressive 90 points.

The judge commented the teams did a great job with the ingredients they had and wished the Strichen team well for the National Competition which will take place in February 2025.
