25 Jul Strathearn stride into 1st place at East Rally 2023
West Park Farm in Auchterarder [Perthshire] was the host venue for the 2023 East Region Rally, by kind permission of the Rattray Family.
Strathearn JAC scooped the winner’s title, a huge achievement after competing against 14 other clubs for the Bibby Shield.
Pipped at the post in second were last year’s winners Peeblesshire JAC. Kinross JAC came into third position.
The day kicked off with the junior and senior sections of Produce Show. Seniors made; Trifle, Savoury Dip, Coronation Quiche, A Sewn Article themed “In The Kitchen”, Decorated Cake, A Caricature of King Charles and A Themed Photograph.
Juniors made; Cordial, Empire Biscuits, Coronation Chicken Sandwiches, A Model Garden in a Biscuit Tin, a Sands and Grains Portrait and A Themed Photograph.
Stockjudging and valuation shortly followed, where members had 6 classes of cattle and sheep to judge and over 20 agricultural items to valuate. The afternoon saw the beginning of the main competitions, including fault finding, grading lambs, quad driving, farm business quiez, floral art arranging, identification plus many more.
The final section of the day was a favourite of the clubs, the sports! Members competed in a wheelbarrow race, 100m sprint, 100m relay race and an obstacle course set up by Perthshire District and East Chair, Jillian Kennedy. Spectators witnessed our members jumping over bales, crawling under nets, and plunging themselves into pools of water in order to slide into first place.
