29 Oct Greig siblings cook up a storm at Grampian Ready Steady Country Cooks Competition
SAYFC North Region held their Grampian elimination of the ‘Ready Steady Country Cooks’ competition on Sunday 26th October at Garioch Community Kitchen.
The competition was kindly sponsored by Hattoncrook Farm Deli and supported by Glenkirlie Larder, who kindly provided the venison and was judged by Lauren Houstoun and Judith Donald.
Members from Vale of Alford, Echt and Lower Speyside were in teams of two and raced against the clock to produce dishes using only store ingredients and a bag of 8 mystery items. It was a very close competition which made the judges’ job a difficult one.
In the end, it was the team from Vale of Alford, made up of brother and sister duo Alexandra and Jack Greig, who came out on top with a fantastic 97.5 points out of a possible 100.
Following in second place was the Lower Speyside team of Rhona and Maria Rhind with an impressive 80 points, and in third place was our Echt team, made up of Kayleigh Turner and Emma Blackhall with a score of 76.
Judge, Lauren Houston commented “It was a pleasure to be asked to judge the Country Cooks competition and I was so impressed by all who participated, great technical skills from each team and all really different ideas. The winners, Vale of Alford’s dishes were especially delicious and I wish them every success in the final”
