16 Dec Investing in Innovation

This year the Agri and Rural Affairs Conference was held in Ayrshire with members from all across the country congregating at the Mercure hotel in Ayr for a jam-packed weekend. Our theme this year was ‘Inspiring Innovation’ so conversations around new technologies, innovative ideas, challenging the norm and embracing opportunities were at the forefront. From promoting locally produced Scotch assured meat, to investing in Renewable technologies, and support for young people in the industry, there were some fascinating discussions throughout.
We visited some of Ayrshire’s finest businesses, including the Young Family at Girvan Mains, ATV Services new headquarters at Ayr market, and the Campbell family at Low Holehouse. Investing in future generations was a common theme, and having the confidence to try something new, be bold and not be afraid to make mistakes will hopefully be among the messages taken away by the delegates.
One of the main takeaways from the weekend was that innovation can come in many forms, shapes and sizes. Don’t be afraid to try something new if it’s the right thing for your business. Be bold, there are as many opportunities out there as there are challenges!
We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors for this year’s conference, mainly RBS, Cefetra, Galbraith’s, and SAC Consulting, for supporting the event and also providing workshops on Saturday afternoon. We are also grateful for the support of QMS, IAAS and BASC for their support and presence at the conference, and for helping to make sure the weekend was as inspiring and thought provoking for all that attended.

Thanks to everyone who came along, and I hope you all had a great weekend!

I absolutely loved being part of the Scottish
Young Farmer Agri Conference weekend.
It was great to meet so many
enthusiastic, outgoing and entrepreneurial young farmers. Thank you for allowing me to speak at the event and share some my young farmer stories, my own farm diversification journey, innovation insights and talk about my Renewables Connect Platform. Farmers are now operating in an industry, where in order to make a profit and safeguard their future, innovation and diversification, is no longer optional, it is a must!
