Strathearn JAC Cap off their 80th year with Club of the Year Title
One of the biggest cheers of the night at our Grand Prize Giving at the Royal Highland Show went to the members of Strathearn JAC who claimed this year’s Club of the Year title.
The club were recognised for their work to engage members, especially with an influx of younger members joining the club in recent years. Club Secretary Emily Dawson spoke about how this has created an atmosphere of camaraderie in the club:
“The club has been going from strength to strength over the last few years thanks to the hard work of the committee to keep our members engaged and create a thriving team spirit within the club! We are all absolutely delighted with this achievement!”
This has been a stand out year for the club who have been particularly busy due to their 80th Anniversary celebrations. As part of this the club has thrown a host of open events to engage with members and the wider community. They have also placed a goal on raising money for their chosen charities Children’s Hospice Across Scotland (CHAS) and Scottish Charity Air Ambulance (SCAA), raising over £8,000 through their Charity Tractor Run, Ben Nevis Climb and Bingo Tea. Club Chair Ewan Aitken was delighted by the win and is very pleased at the engagement from club members:
“To hear Strathearn read out as National Club of the Year 2025 is by far the best moment in my time in Young Farmers. A lot of work went into organising our 80th Anniversary year and to get recognised at a National level means so much. We’ve seen a new keen batch of young members and as Club Chair my biggest aim for last year was for them to enjoy themselves and hopefully have as good a Young Farmers experience as I’ve had over the years. We’ve seen great attendance at meetings, competitions and fundraising. My highlights of the year were winning East Rally for just the second time in the clubs history and also climbing Ben Nevis for charity with a total of 30 members making it up and down safely in a day. I’m sure this award will continue to keep members keen and hopefully keep Strathearn strong for years to come.”
Congratulations also to our other two placing finalists. Second place went to East Kilbride YFC who were recognised for their engagement with other clubs and the local community and their variety of club meetings on offer to their members. In third place were Bute JAC who were also praised for their community engagement, particularly the ongoing success of their Mini Young Farmers Club, ran through one of their local nurseries.
Final Results were:
1st- Strathearn
2nd- East Kilbride
3rd- Bute
Well done also to our other 3 Finalists who made it through from regional level.
