20 Oct Alan and Jack Dress to Impress
SAYFC’s National Beef Cattle Dressing Competition was held on Sunday 18th of October at Caithness Livestock Centre, Quoybrae. The competition sponsored by Kepak Macintosh Donald saw qualified teams travel the length of Scotland to take part on the day, all of them keen to demonstrate their skill at dressing cattle to show ring standard.
Throughout the morning, the members worked in pairs to wash, clip and brush their cattle (kindly provided by the Bremner family), looking to emphasise each animal’s best features in the hopes of impressing competition Judge Mark Munro of Invercharron Farm.
After the clippers were stilled and the hair had settled it was the senior pair of Alan Lindsay and Jack Young of Carluke YFC who stood victorious in the Overall Competition. Whilst in the Juniors, the title went to Lucy Sanderson & Michael Neill of Ednam JAC.
National Competitions Chair Ewan Aitken summed up the day’s competition:
“We were delighted to see teams from all 3 regions travel to Caithness Mart on Sunday for another successful and enjoyable National Beef Cattle Dressing. A very high standard of clipping made a difficult day of judging for Mark Munro of Invercharron Farm with the team of Alan Lindsay and Jack Young of Carluke winning the Seniors and Overall title with the Ednam team of Lucy Sanderson and Michael Neill taking home the Junior Title. It was also great to see all 3 regions winning certificates on the day in front of a crowd of spectators.
Big thanks must go to our sponsors Kepak, Caithness Market, stock providers the Bremner family, judge Mark Munro and all the competitors and families for travelling up to take part. A big well done to all the certificate winners and all the competitors for qualifying.”
