North Agri Day Success

North Region Agri Competitions Day

Members from across the North Region travelled to compete in the SAYFC North Region Agri Day held at Thainstone Agricultural Centre, Inverurie on Saturday 3rd October where competitors took part in Beef Cattle Dressing, Prime Lamb Dressing and Agri Skills competitions kindly sponsored by SAC Consulting.

Eight teams competed in the Beef Cattle Dressing competition, which was judged by Mr Angus Greenlaw, Huntly and cattle were kindly supplied by Mr Blair Duffton, Huntly.

The winning Senior team were Caithness B, Lauren Oag and Will Oag with 98 points out of a possible 100. Second place went to Caithness A, James Swanson and Shayne Mackay with scoring 94 points and third went to Echt, Hannah Lorimer and Lyndsey Brown with 92 points. The first Junior placing went to Beth Lorimer and Wilson Stott of Echt Young Farmers with 79 points and second, Caithness C, Cameron Gunn and Alex Pottinger with 74 points. Other competing teams were from Udny, Vale of Alford and InverRoss clubs.

There were ten teams competing in the Prime lamb dressing competition, which was judged by Mr David McKerrow, Ellon with lambs kindly supplied by Mr Callum Simpson, Insch.

 

The winning team in the Senior section were Echt Young Farmer’s Hannah Lorimer and Lyndsey Brown with 76 out of a possible 95. Second place went to Forss members, Bethany Swanson and James Swanson with 72 points, and third went to Halkirk C, Morven MacKenzie and Kirsty Grant with 67 points.  In the Junior section, first place went to Halkirk members, Ross Campbell and Caitlin McGuire with 60 points. Other competing teams were from Udny, Vale of Alford and Halkirk clubs.

The Agri Skills competition saw six teams compete in tasks that demonstrate their skill and knowledge of agriculture. Teams took part in – Livestock Demonstration, Machinery Fault Finding and set up, Harnessing a Tup, Weed and Disease Identification and a Farm Management Quiz. Vale of Alford Young Farmers team, Euan MacRae, Laura Smith and Megan Glass-Smith were placed first with Caithness E, James Swanson, Bethany Swanson and William Campbell placed second followed by Caithness C, Robbie Todd, Liam Webster and Caitlin McGuire in third.

North Chair William Campbell added “a great day was had by all who attended and it was good to see so many teams from around the region taking part in the competitions”.

On Sunday 4th October there was also a Stockjudging held for North Region members. This was held by kind permission of the Glennie Family, Alford. Results of the competition can be found below.
