28 Jul Lanarkshire End Long Wait with Stockmanship Victory

District Lifts Glasgow Herald Trophy for the First Time in 21 Years.
The Saturday of the Royal Highland Show was a memorable day for Lanarkshire District as they picked up a series of accolades in the SAYFC Stockmanship Programme (Sponsored by Kepak McIntosh Donald). All capped off with the Lanarkshire A team lifting the Glasgow Herald Trophy. The team, consisting of Robbie Meikle, Mark Bryson, Jane Lindsay, Lucy Graham, James Fleming and Kim Laird, are the first from the district to claim the title in 21 years. Team member and district Stockmanship convenor Jane Lindsay summed up her feelings on an achievement that will live long in the memory:
“I am Incredibly proud to be part of the Lanarkshire team that won the Glasgow Herald Trophy. A special achievement and one we’ll never forget. A huge thank you must go to our trainers and host farms for their support. What a fantastic achievement for us all, ending a 21-year wait to return the trophy to Lanarkshire.”
Second Place in the competition went to the Ayrshire A team of Rory Scott, Adam Smith, Kyle Scott, Scott Anderson, Cameron Barclay and Gregor Brown. Whilst the third spot was claimed by the Lanarkshire C team of Alison Hamilton, Fiona Currie, Clare Miller, Lucy Clark, Cate Leiper and Tyler Mckinley.
The district also performed well in the Senior Individual and Pair competitions. Robbie Meikle & Mark Bryson won the Changue Trophy for Best Pair in the Dairy Section, with Mark picking up best Individual in Dairy. Jane Lindsay & Lucy Graham claimed the Morphie Trophy for the Best Pair in the Beef Section and Lucy Clark took the title of Best Individual in the Beef Section.
When it came to Sheep Section, it was the members from Orkney District who outshone the competition with the established pairing of Tom Flett & Marcus Scholes lifting the NFU Trophy for Best Pair in the Sheep Section before the individual title was also passed to Tom from his teammate and last year’s winner Marcus.
Congratulations to our winning Stockjudgers and well done to everyone who competed on the day. The Association thanks the Royal Highland Show for hosting the competition again; the volunteers, scorers, judges and stewards for their support; and this year’s sponsors, Kepak McIntosh Donald, for backing the programme and our members.
