East Fife to the Fore

East Golf made a triumphant return after a three-year hiatus and it was East Fife JAC who stole the show, taking home a trophy that had been firmly in Strathearn JAC’s possession for many years.

After three years on the sidelines, the competition returned with plenty of drama, competitive spirit and, most importantly, representation from across the region.

And when the final scores were counted, it was East Fife JAC who emerged victorious, claiming the trophy for the East Neuk in impressive style.

The winning team of brothers Douglas and Cameron Jack, alongside Bradley Marshall, produced a commanding performance to blow away the competition and bring the silverware back to Fife.

It was a particularly memorable day for the Jacks, with Cameron and Douglas both adding individual honours to the team success.
East Fife’s strength in depth was underlined by the fact that the runners-up were also from the same club. Aiden Bruce, Jamie Thomson and Rory McBain combined to claim second place, giving East Fife JAC a one-two finish on the competition’s long-awaited return.

The day also produced some standout individual performances.

Cameron Jack powered his way to the longest-drive prize on the 495-yard 13th hole, narrowly edging Competitions and Events Chair Ewan Aitken.

There was another impressive feat at the seventh, where Lothian and Peeblesshire’s Callum Roche claimed the closest-to-the-pin prize – one of only a handful of players to find the putting surface.

And there were further family bragging rights for the Jack household in the individual competition.

Douglas Jack claimed individual victory, with his 18-handicap proving decisive as he finished ahead of younger brother Cameron. Callum Roche completed the individual podium in third.

With 12 players taking part and all five East districts represented, the competition’s return provided a welcome boost after several years in which interest had waned.

For East Region Chair John Paton, the sight of golfers from across the region coming together was exactly what the revived competition needed:

“It has been fantastic to see the East Golf competition make such a strong return after a few years when interest had unfortunately faded. To have all five districts represented is hugely encouraging and shows there is a real appetite for the event. With the competition back on the calendar and the trophy heading to the East Neuk, I’m confident this can become a fixture that continues to grow and thrive for many years to come.”
