Bell Baxter Chop It Like It’s Hot

Bell Baxter Chop It Like It’s Hot

On Thursday 23rd May, The East Region headed back to Kinross High School for one of the regions favorite competitions of the year… Ready Steady Country Cooks! The storms outside may have closed some roads (we’re looking at you Edinburgh Bypass…) but the competitors inside cooked up a storm for our judges. With the store cupboard ingredients sorted it was time for the competitors to find out their 8 mystery items: Beef Mince, Aubergine, Chocolate, Shortcrust Pastry, Frozen Peas, Potatoes, Cornflakes and Rhubarb. With 10 minutes to come up with a plan the teams of two then had 48 minutes to cook up their dishes in a chance to impress the judges. Forks and scoresheets ready it was finally East Regional Chair, James’ favorite part…The Taste Test. The final results are as follows:

3rd Place – Caroline and Joanne Cook, Bathgate JAC

2nd Place – Iona Bruce and Rebecca Hamilton, Strathmore JAC

1st Place – Kirstin Laird and Ailsa Roberts, Bell Baxter ADS

Thank you to our judges Liz Nicoll and Karen Dagg and a very big thank you to Hunters Of Kinross butchers who very kindly provided the meat for the competition. Well done to all the competitors and good luck to Strathmore and Bell Baxter who will take part in the National Final in February 2025.
