East Rally 2022

Peeblesshire Win East Rally 2022

Smailholm Mains Farms at Kelso [Border Fed] was the host venue for the 2022 East Rally, by kind permission of the Shaw Family.

Peeblesshire JAC scooped the winner’s title, a huge achievement after competing against 14 other clubs for the Bibby Shield.

Pipped at the post in close joint second were West Fife YFC and Ednam JAC. Reston JAC came into third position.

The day kicked off with the junior and senior sections of Produce Show. Seniors made; Orange Marmalade, Fruit Scones, Humous, Mocktail, Pineapple Tarts, Scotch Eggs and a Floral Button Hole Arrangement.

Juniors made; Pancakes, Pasta Salad, Cloudy Lemonade, Strawberry Tarts, Decorated Masquerade Mask and a Vegetable Animal.

Stockjudging and valuation shortly followed, where members had 6 classes of cattle and sheep to judge and over 20 agricultural items to valuate. The afternoon saw the beginning of the main competitions, including welding, grading lambs, quad and trailer driving, tractor handing, floral art arranging, identification plus many more.

The final section of the day was a favourite of the clubs, the sports! Members competed in a wheelbarrow race, 100m sprint, 100m relay race and an obstacle course set up by Border Fed District and East Chair, Jennifer Jones. Spectators witnessed our members jumping over bales, crawling under nets, and plunging themselves into pools of water in order to slide into first place.

Many thanks to the Shaw family for their premises and all their generous help. Thanks to our judges and valuers; Malcolm Stewart, Aaron Palmer, Bob Hay, Ollie Shearman, Billy Fortune, Carol Lawson and Kirsty Shaw.
Thanks must also go to all our stewards and scorers!
