11 May Katie leads the way with Lucy as Vice!
The National Association elected Katie Burns, of Kilmaurs YFC last month as new 2021-22 Chair of SAYFC.
Backed by the new 2021-22 National Vice Chair, from West Fife – Lucy Mitchell.
The pair have already been ‘out in action’ with a few socially distanced meetings and look forward to help guide clubs throughout their recovery post COVID-19.
With Lucy Mitchell, having the additional asset as a past SAYFC member of staff and Katie having been heavily involved in Ayrshire District over the years, SAYFC clubs are in good hands for the future!
Here’s what Katie Burns had to say about her election:Β
“On what has been a year like no other the determination and drive that they have shown has been amazing. All Clubs quickly adapted, whether it be changing competitions to suit, helping their communities in a crisis, supporting their members throughout a very isolating time or helping many wonderful charities, all of which have really improved the perception of Young Farmers!
Working alongside Gemma Bruce the past year has been a great experience, we never quite managed to have many events, however it gave us the opportunity to take time to explore our membersβ expectations and how we could improve their experience. In the summer we asked members past, present and future to participate in a member consultation to gage insight into what they wanted to see from SAYFC. We also took a look at the overall structure of the organisation and how it could be improved.
These committees have already been working together for the past four months using the collated information from the Consultation. This feedback has led to the introduction of a newly developed Leadership Programme, member led farm safety training, a new mentoring program, a Covid Development Fund alongside many more great things to come, and I look forward to sharing these with you.
I would not be in this position today if it wasnβt for the encouragement and support I have received throughout my time as a member and officer bearer. So a massive Thank you must go to the Members, staff and supporters of this amazing organisation.”
Here’s what Lucy had to say:
“I am delighted to have been elected as SAYFCβs National Vice Chair this year to support Katie, at top level. As Covid restrictions are easing plans are already in place to hold competitions are events this summer. I hope that they ease further to allow the association to get back up and running properly so that all our members are able to make the most of the fantastic opportunities that SAYFC has to offer.”
