Hosts take the spoils at the National Sevens

On Sunday the 5th May Young Farmers from across Scotland gathered at Biggar Rugby Club for the Association’s Annual Sevens tournament. It was a great afternoon of competition as members battled for the chance of lifting the national title.

This year was particularly special as it saw the introduction of a ladies’ tournament due to demand, a real reflection of the growth of the women’s game inspired by members like Emma Orr and Eva Donaldson who have been tearing it up for the National side.

After a hard-fought tournament, it was Biggar who claimed victory in both the Men’s and Ladies section, much to the delight of the gathered home support. The final results from the day were mirrored in both sections with the Men’s and Ladies’ sides from Ayrshire and Dumfries and Galloway Districts taking home 2nd and 3rd place respectively:

Men’s Tournament

1st Place- Biggar YFC

2nd Place- Ayrshire

3rd Place- Dumfries & Galloway

Player of the Tournament

Jamie Drummond Ayrshire

Women’s Tournament

1st Place- Biggar YFC

2nd Place- Ayrshire

3rd Place- Dumfries & Galloway

Player of the Tournament

Rachel Philipps (Biggar)

Speaking on the tournament, women’s player of the tournament Rachel Philipps can’t wait to see it go strength to strength:

β€œIt’s great having the women’s games running alongside the men’s this year. To run out with Biggar YF that has such close links to the rugby club is really special. I’m excited to see how the National YF 7s grows going forward”.

SAYFC would like to thank Biggar rugby club for hosting and all of the stewards, officials and medical professionals who helped the day run smoothly.
