Carluke Claim the Prize

SAYFC’s West Region Senior Speechmaking & Quiz were held on Sunday 1st February at Dunlop Village Hall.

This year’s Speechmaking format involved Club teams consisting of a Chair, Proposer, Opposer & Arbiter. A total of seven teams took part in the competition.

Following a strong display of public speaking and debating skills, the teams qualifying for the National Final in Inverness are:

• 1st Place: Carluke Pink
• 2nd Place: Stranraer & Rhins
• 3rd Place: Carluke Blue
• 4th Place: Mauchline Black

In addition, individual accolades were presented as follows:

• Best Chair (Outwith Winning Team): Maxwell Wyllie – Mauchline Red
• Best Proposer (Outwith Winning Team): Ailsa Buchanan – Stranraer & Rhins
• Best Opposer (Outwith Winning Team): Jack Young – Carluke Blue
• Best Arbiter (Outwith Winning Team): Kyle Lamont – Mauchline Black
• Best Overall Speaker: Maxwell Wyllie – Mauchline Red

While the Speechmaking event was being adjudicated, the West Senior Quiz competition commenced, with nine teams participating. Teams were challenged across a broad range of subject areas and competed in rounds that included Traditional Quiz formats, Hotseat rounds and high‑pressure Fastest Buzzer rounds.

Final quiz results were as follows:

• 1st Place: Crossroads YFC
• 2nd Place: Carluke YFC
• 3rd Place: Stewartry YFC

The top two teams will now progress to the National Final in Inverness.
