22 Apr Mhairi and Scott Take on West Leadership
SAYFC’s West Region met on the 12th of April 2026 for their regional Assembly to review the year and elect their new committee for the year ahead.
Carluke member Mhairi Hall stepped into the role of West Regional Chair, she is looking forward to her year as chair and hopes to bring the region closer together:
“This year, I hope to shine a spotlight on the brilliant work across our region, promoting what they do and bring members closer together. I want to build more shared experiences, stronger connection and a real sense of belonging across the region.”
“I’ve absolutely loved my year as Vice Chair, travelling around the West, meeting so many members, and seeing the different (and often very interesting) ways each district runs. It’s been a great experience and something I’d love to build on by getting around as many clubs as possible this year. Anne has been amazing and incredibly supportive throughout, and after everything she’s put into the role, I definitely have big shoes to fill.”
“I would love to focus on supporting clubs and districts to promote themselves and all they do, strengthen connections between clubs through visitations, and creating time for members across the region to get to know each other.”
Mhairi takes on the position from Anne Craig after a successful and busy year at the helm which saw her travel the length and breadth of the region:
“A personal highlight was visiting our 26 clubs in the West, an ambitious challenge filled with late night driving, many wrong turns, warm welcomes, and the chance to meet grassroots members. I am incredibly grateful to this year’s committee for their hard work and support, especially to Emily for her exceptional organisation and Mhairi for her dedication as vice chair.”
A vote was then held to see who would join Mhairi as her Vice Chair for the year ahead, and it was Scott Anderson of Crossroads YFC who won the count on the day. He is hoping to encourage members’ competitive spirits:
“It’s an honour to be elected West Vice Chair for the year ahead and I look forward to working closely with Mhairi and the rest of the team to give back to the association that has given me so much.”
“I am looking forward to the year ahead, travelling round the West area, meeting members and hopefully instilling my competitive nature in them. Our younger members are the future of the association and I aim to encourage them to get everything they can out of Young Farmers as there is no other youth movement like it.”
District representatives were officially confirmed prior to the final vote determining co-option committee appointments. The committee subsequently reviewed the previous year’s outcomes, formally acknowledging the accomplishments of clubs across the Region. Awards for Participation and Recruitment were presented, and winners of the West Club of the Year Competition—held earlier that day—were announced.
Well done to all the award winners and newly appointed committee members, and best of luck for the year ahead.
